shooting practice....
Its great to be a Viking Coach these days, with 4-5 normal starting 11s missing, I still had 22 guys signing up for this match against Nippon and our strength depth looked certain to give us the 3 points and a comfortable win.
In the early minutes it was Vikings creating great chances for an early opener. Especially a tireless work rate from striker Dyne-Larsen saw the Vikings creating some great chances, but as neither Casper, Charni or Fallesen converted we suddenly saw Nippon starting to beleive in their chance and playing some good football, and the should have scored when a certain number 7 from the Vikings was caught ball watching and let his direct opponent get plenty of space inside the penalty box.
Besides from this the Viking defence and midfield had a good day in the office defensively, and managed to sit closer to the Nippon midfield than we conceeded 3 goals against them in the last encounter. 0-0 and the halftime talk was about playing the shorter passes, not being afraid to make a dribble or two. With the introduction of Morfar Lund in the 55th minute (if he just had more than 30min in him per game.............)Vikings really started to play the quick 1-2 passes and creating multiple chances, but with especially our number 10 of the week not being able to hit the target it became a very tense last 10-15 minutes with both teams looking for the winner.
Vikings had a penalty claim turned down by the referee and while he did not do much wrong on the day, getting the biggest decision wrong of course ruins the overall picture.
With 5 minutes to go Morfar played a beauty of a through ball to Charni who found himself one-on-one with the un-storming Nippon keeper, a nice chip and the ball seemed goalbound only to end up just 30cm wide of the post. The game ended 0-0, and Vikings can look back at 7-8 major goal scoring chances, but with not one shot on target or one proper save from the Nippon goalie - it seems we are due some shooting practice in the coming week.
Next week we are facing Rangers in the plate, and with a few players returning from travel, and others eager to show the coaching team that they belong in the start 16 we expect to see players battling their heart out, especially with Viking Cup selection coming up in just abt a month.
Man of the match goes to Bergholdt, who is now 2 out of 2 in the season. Thanks to Nippon for a great game.
