After a great start into the new COSMO season with 3 wins out of 4 and 3rd in the table, Saturday's encounter against Sahara Rangers brought the German All Stars somewhat back to reality.
3pm Kick Off meant soaring temperatures, but a great pitch @ the Indian Association. Some All Stars had gone to Germany to enjoy Bayern Munich losing with a clear margin (I think 5-2) at home against Werder Bremen and those who stayed, celebrated this in style at the Oktoberfest.
It was the last game for East German Junior Rock Star Felix Valderama in goal, who will go back to Germany next week. Thanks Felix - it has been a pleasure and we wish you all the best.
As Libero it was Marcus Kuhni-gunde in his second last game supported by the 2 defenders Hermann Monster and Rino Zerus. The central midfield was a mountain affair with Christoph Schweinsteiger from Bavaria and Erzgebirgs -Makalele Heiko. On the flanks it was the Jenenser Wirbelwind Ralf Schnupphase,
And Pipo Handsome. Up front we started with Michael Sparwasser, Sascha Kleinbundenbach and Volker Voeller.
Coach - Wolfgang Petri - told his All Stars, that this game will become a tough encounter and Tommy Hanks added, that we will see how it goes, which we will see during the game.
The German tanks started very focused, although the heat certainly made it not easy. Both Bergsteiger-Stars (Heiko + Chritoph) worked very well in the central midfield, closing in and winning the balls. Some nice attacks via Michael and the wingers led to several good crosses into the box, which unfortunately did not get converted or were saved by a great Rangers Goalie. The German All Stars were the better team in the first half, but the attacks usually ended at the penalty box. The biggest opportunity was with Volker Voeller, who after a good run by Sascha saw his shot from short distance saved by the keeper. Just minutes before that the Rangers Goalie did some magic, as he saved Volle's freekick, which was nicely curled over the wall. So it was 0-0 at half time and Wolfgang Petri asked his Mannen to just change one thing: put the ball in the back of the net. Rangers came much better in the game during the second half and the German All Stars paid their bill in the heat for the massive efforts of the first half. While there was not too many chances created by Rangers, the game now went more towards the German goal. Still the All Stars were dangerous, with some good counter attacks via Michael, Volker and Sascha. Around middle of the second Half Sascha twisted his knee and when he came back on to try again, it was him who nicely made it 1-0, after a great pass by Michael. Unfortunately this was too much for Dr.Cha Cha Cha's knee and so he had to go off. We hope to get him back on stage soon. While GAS now was 1-0 up Rangers increased their pressure. The German tanks tried their best to hang on to the narrow lead, but after a smashing Querschlaeger Rangers equalized. The German threw Ingo, Florian, Marcus P. and Andre into the battle, but it was not meant to be that day and so the game ended with an even handed 1-1 draw.
Man of the match was Hermann Monster, not because he got sent off J, but because of his tremendous work in the defense.
