First game of the season for the Latini with a couple of new comers and some of the core players out for injuries. A good test for us after three months of break against a strong Viking team with 4-5 really good players.
Vikings were definitly more in shape than us and long balls after long balls created the best chances. Nonetheless after a couple of good moves we finally scored the opener by Jerome who sent a missile from 25 meters in the net. 1-0 Latini!
As usual we could not keep the score very long and ten minutes later, after Fafa and Luke were overpassed by Vikings center mids, Vikings scored a deserved equalizer.
Vikings should have lost their central defender on a red card for putting the hand as a last defender. Fice minutes later, after a good tackle from Fafa on the side line and a immediate long ball to Oliver, the latter cold bloodedly executed the keeper for a 2-1 lead
The game became intense with the midfielders fighting hard but Vikings came back in the game after Luke slidded, Etienne kicked the ball on Brent's back....for an assist to the striker. Although unluckly, the goal was deserved. 2-2
Ten minutes before the half, after a nice passing from Jereome, Olivier "poulet" Michel made a one man show with a nice (on purpose?) control, acceleration and lob the keeper for the a very nice goal. Second half Vikings controled the game, Latini team stood up with most of the guys extremely tired but inhabited by the usual fighting spirit that allowed us to come back home with the first win of the season. In second half both teams had their chances stopped by posts or excellent keeper. One point each would have been derserved but since when football is a fair game?
Congrats to my guys for an excellent first act.Every one fought very hard and played within the instructions with discipline. A special thought to two of our players who lost very close relatived hours before the game.Sincere condoleances.
The atmosphere in the team is excellent with 5-6 players coming to watch to see us play when not in the roster. I like that a lot and it is a sign of a good season.
Man of the game: Richard Lewis for an outstanding secondhalf and Luke Diaz for playing like a Lion although he was injured.
