With the black clouds and rain spanning the length of the entire morning, many would have asked if it was going to affect the game for the Rangers.
All signs pointed to a bad day with the unavailability of some key players and the substitution of captain Todd Koning mid way through the first half. However, as we all know, the Rangers don't just lie down to 'die'. And fight they did though it was not to be their day once again.
The first goal for Brewerkz came from some bad defending. However, their second goal came from some clinical finishing albeit by Rangers defender Tommy Gilmore. It was certainly a beautiful header that sneaked its way into the goal. The first half Brewerkz lead could've been much larger if not for some Schmeichel-like saves from Rangers Man-of-the-Match, Alvaro Padron on at least 2 one on one situations.
Brewerkz scored their third goal after what looked like the referee and linesmen had missed a ball handled by a Brewerkz player to control the ball and take a shot which came off another Rangers defender Ken Whitaker catching goal custodian Alvaro totally off guard. A very lucky goal whichever way you look at it.
By this time, the Rangers had started to find their rhythm and were starting to string a lot of good passes together. With the introduction of manager Blacky and some re-arrangements in the second half, the Rangers seemed to catch their second wind. They managed to find themselves in some goal scoring positions but the lack of a quality goal poacher was obvious.
Late in the second half, a ferocious tackle by Rangers midfielder Craig ended with the ball in the Rangers net for what would seem like a third own goal. And that was the way the game ended, 4 -0 to Brewerkz.
It was definitely a spirited display in the 2nd half by the Rangers still looking for their first win. But as long as the Rangers spirit lives on, we will bounce back.
