Vikings stay on top after draw against Ubin

This weekends clash was at Turf City against Pulau Ubin. A team we expect to beat as we are currently top of the leaderboard. Our league position has given our team plenty of confidence and we started the game at full pace.

The match was only 1 min 40 secs old, when we took the lead. Rasmus was fed with a through pass and despite being far out on the right side of the penalty area, his cool low finish found its way past the onrushing goalkeeper.
1-0 Vikings and everything was going as planned. We continued to pressure Ubin and a remarkable effort from Elbo hit the crossbar. Our pace was good and we had a few other decent chances within the first 20 minutes, which could/should have doubled our lead.

As everything looked all Vikings, Ubin got their equalizer after some mix-up on our right side, which left an Ubin player unmarked and he made the most of it with a good long range finish. Great effort and it was 1-1. From that point onwards Ubin looked more confident and they showed more willingness to win this match, which due to the narrow pitch was a centre midfield fight during the entire 90 minutes.

Second half was lacking good football and Ubin did well to battle their way to a few chances. We had a good chance from comeback player Peter Lund and Naoki almost got lucky as the Ubin keeper hit him when clearing the ball. Ubin might have felt they deserved the win and honestly they showed more desire in the second half, which could have given them the 3 points.

We can count ourselves fortunate to get a draw, which due to other results was enough to stay top of the table. This was a off-day for almost the entire team and guess its possitive that we still get a draw. We need to re-group before next Saturday and get back on track with 3 points.

Cheers,
