As Good As It Gets
This was the Hotspurs at their most fluid on Saturday - and I'm not talking about the effects of the pre-match curry.  The match at Dempsey was played in ideal conditions - rain to begin with to soften the pitch, then cloud to ensure no repetition of the second half tiredness we suffered last week.

Three were a few absentees this week - Esad suspended, Dalis, Aran and Bruce - all key players!  But did it matter?  This was without doubt our best team performance of the season, surpassing even our demolition of Brewerkz.  The reason for this was the fact that everyone was playing for each other.  This resulted in at times sublime football, several one-touch moves of rare quality, fine touches around the box to create chances and passing and movement at its simplest and most effective.

The first goal on 5 minutes was a veritable peach; Paul from right-back to Mike to Binnsy to Ali and all the way over to Flo playing left-back to slot home.  The 1970 Brazil side flashed through my head at this point for no particular reason!  Marco's goal was mooted as perhaps another contender for ‘goal of the season', it being a clever flick over the ‘keeper after he received the ball with his back to goal.  Mike earned and converted a penalty for the 3-0 half-time lead.  It could have been so many more.

The second half saw us picking up where we left off.  Binnsy crossed for Marco after less than a minute, and in the 60th an almost identical goal for Marco to complete his hat-trick.  Jimmy added another on 63, then everything got a bit hazy as the Gaffer entered the fray for a cameo that rolled back the years; his first contribution being the losing of a boot when trying to run (these Crocs are really useless!).  Ali got a goal his play  deserved, Anis added another from close in after a fine run from Mike and Mike himself completed the scoring when the ball slid under the ‘keeper.  Meanwhile chances came and went and the Dutch goalie made some excellent saves.

We enjoyed this match immensely and 15 minutes from the end a Dutch player asked the ref, "How long is this torture going to go on?"   Everybody played well.  Marko and Ali dominated in the middle, Mike and Chris led the line extremely well, Jimmy played clever Pythagorean type triangles, Binnsy loved the freedom of the wing, Paul launched many attacks from right-back, and our German left-back was playing total football like a Dutchman.  Deano was joining the attack and picking players out well and Berry was finding touch with astounding  regularity.  Full marks also to Neil as well, for playing with a torn hamstring and broken thumb.  This was as good as it gets.
