Brewerkz fresh from their triumph over the Swiss last week had high hopes for this game, with almost the same starting 11 beginning this match and a stong supporting bench. Last year SCC beat Brewerkz easily on both occasions and things could not have started much worse for the microbrewers as SCC quickly got into ther stride and took the lead after just 5 minutes from a badly organised wall and a well placed free kick from Bowden who took full advantage of the dissary within the Brewerz defence. Things got worse for Brewerkz 15 minutes later when a ball over the top saw it land at the forwards feet for him to score easily, and saw SCC take a 2-0 lead. Nic will be kicking himself for that one as he could and should have saved it. After that Brewerkz steadily got more possesion, and dominated the last 20 mins which was rewarded with Emmanuel finishing of some lovely neat passing within the SCC six yard box by Sawal & Miranda to make it 2-1 going into the break. The half time team talk was about keeping it tight, making the most of the chances we were getting. An injury to Aiken saw a reshuffle at the half with Opia moving to the left and Miranda given free rein in the middle which he used well. Brewerkz started where they left off pushing SCC for most of the 1st 20 mins with goalbound efforts from Miranda and Emmanal almost restroring parity. With 20 mins to go SCC extended thier lead with a header from a free kick which looked like the end for Brewerkz....however there was a big twist in todays match, with the clock ticking down and SCC loking comfortable, Opia brought some hope to the brewerkz with a tap in after Sawal and Emmanual had shots saved by the SCC keeper. 3-2 and game on.. The final few minutes saw Brewerkz equalise in spectacular fashion as Parerra sent a 25yard free kick into the top right hand corner of the SCC to level the game with just 2 mins remaining and send the away fans and team into raptures..3-3.
This was a cracking game of football and a draw was a fair result given the effort Brewerz put into this game. SCC may think differently who as always were as competitive as ever and will again be the team to beat 2009.
Some good performances today by Ike Fortune at the back who dealt with most of the threat from the SCC forward line and who was supported by the towering Mannini and Harding (who has found right back to be a decent position for him) and Jon Bett who never put a foot wrong all game. Right accross the middle saw plenty of effort with Parerra particularly catching the eye aainst hisold team and up front Sawal and Emmanual a constant threat to the SCC backline. God game to watch and as ever plenty of banter from both sides....
