Vital Vikings Victory
Level on points before this weekend, so it was indeed an important match against Swiss @ SJI. A match we needed to win to keep up with the Cosmoleague top 4.
We only made one change in our line-up from our impressing draw against Casuals two weeks ago and everyone were eager to claim the 3 points. In the first half we played some of the best football this season and our 5-man midfield were in particular outstanding, but our defense & attackers also did well. We took the lead after a nice build-up play involving Lund, Ranck & Casper before Tommie passed the ball across goal to an unmarked Christian Fallesen, who easily sidefooted the ball in from very close range. 1-0 Vikings.
We kept on playing our passing football with our experienced Morfar Lund distributing the passes neatly, like a Straits Times paperboy on a Sunday Morning. This created several chances and we got our second goal, when Tommie was pulled down outside the box. Morfar "The Arm-chair" Lund curled the free-kick into the top corner and deservedly it was 2-0 Vikings. Swiss had a few counter attacks, but honestly it was all Vikings in the first half. Casper almost connected with a cross to make it 3-0 and Elbo also had a decent shot from outside the box. A few minutes before the break Tommie made it 3-0 after receiving a Michael Laudrup like through ball from Fallesen. We should have made it 4, when Ranck played a brilliant ball towards the back post, but Tommie hesitated for too long and the Swiss keeper blocked the shot. It was an impressive first half performance.
It was important to start second half well and finish off the match with a 4-0 goal. We indeed had the chances to do so, but Tommie in particular failed to convert. A few substitutions confused our team organization and misunderstandings allowed Swiss to get 2 quick goals after some 20 minutes, despite us still being in control. 3-2 and Swiss suddenly believed they could get something from this match. We made a few tactical changes and we managed to re-gain our organization in defense by working hard and communicating well.
Some 5-10 minutes after the Swiss goal, we killed the game off when substitute striker Lars Moeller has pulled down inside the box. Correct decision and Tommie made it 4-2. This basically ended the game, but two of our other subs did well as Kenni managed to get on the scoresheet after nice build-up play by Marco. Well done.
Match ended 5-2 - We wish Swiss all the best in the rest of the season.
