Lost 2 points or gained 1 ??
Another outing at the SCRC pitch, and another confirmation that we need to find ourselves a home pitch - as conditions there are definitely not improving. The Vikings with 9 repeats in the starting lineup, but with out young hopefuls Daniel and Gustav (playing a tournament in KL), were however ready to take up the battle from the start.
Within 3-4 minutes Thomas slipped through on the right hand served, and served a perfect pass for an easy tap in by Morten. 1-0 Vikings. The lead unfortunately did not last long as poor organization resulted in goal by an unmarked Swiss player by the backpost. (well taken freekick by the swiss number 5)
It took the Vikings some 10 minutes to wake up again and start creating some proper chances again and with both Calamari and Thomas challenging well on the flanks we were slowly getting there. In 37th minute a through-ball from Thomas saw Morten outpacing (yup, its true !!!) a Swiss defender who as last man committed a clear Penalty. Penalty given, but where was the red card ??? Thomas converted the penalty to make it 2-1 Vikings.
Once again we did not hold on the lead long as a few poor effort to clear the ball resulted in an unfortunate own goal. Halftime 2-2.
What a start !!!
Vikings Kickoff, Peter Lund finds Thomas on the left side, passing the ball across the defense and into the penalty box, where after a bit of hesitation from the Swiss, Calamari calmly made it 3-2. Vikings seemed to be in control of the game and when Peter "no stress" Lund first timed from 25 meters and made it 4-2, it looked like thee points in the bag - but you never know with the Vikings ! At this time the Vikings had a one-on-one with the Swiss goalie, and when yours truly did one of his 5 attacking runs of the season, the pass unfortunately did not make it in time to put me alone with the goalie.
20 minutes to go - and the Swiss starting to apply some pressure to the Vikings defense and after the ball had been bouncing around the penalty box for some 40-50 seconds a Swiss foot struck it past our goalie. Some 3-4 minutes later a nice pass from the Swiss no 5. (Man of the match) - found yours truly caught in the middle of two Swiss strikers, and while I did not manage to chase him up - he coldly finished with a nice strike, 4-4.
While we of course felt we dropped two points after being up 4-2 and having had chances to go up 5-2, we have to be fair and say that the Swiss had 2-3 big chances after the equalizer and all in all a draw was a fair result in a fair played game.
Thanks again to the Swiss for a fair match. Vikings man of the match goes to Martin Just, closely followed by Michael "Calamari" Jensen, who showed the Coaching team that he is ready to fight for a spot in the starting 11.
