Referee's big day out....
A good win for Ubin, but the game is remembered for all the wrong reasons.... The Referee!
Brewerkz started slightly better than Ubin in first 10 mins, and put some pressure on the Ubin midfield and defense without creating any big chances. The boys in blue and black managed to push further up on the field, and started with some quick play through midfield and feeding our speedy strikers with some balls to run at the Brewerkz defense.
Annuar was in a position for a good goal scoring opportunity when he was brought down by the last defender just outside the box. The ref awards a free kick, but seems to have forgotten his cards. The Brewerkz wall did a poor job on the free kick and Min threads the ball through and in to the goal keepers right corner. 1-0 Ubin.
The second came just minutes later, with Min and Pete working hard to close down the defenders and stealing the ball away. Pete making no mistakes and putting the ball in the net.
Last 5 minutes of first half, Ubin let Brewerkz into the game a bit more. They managed to pull one back after a corner, with a slippery ball that Amin did not manage to control and lost into the back of the net.
Ubin getting 2 yellow cards in first half, of which one was apparently for an obstructions just outside the box (Why do the ref penalise this and not the Brewerkz defender brining down Annuar as last man....?). Annuar also got yellow for challenging a ball at the goal line.
Second half was a lot of hard work by Ubin. Still playing good football and creating opportunities through a very good midfield performance. Ubin defense sorting out the problems coming through.
The ref continued to give out soft yellow cards to Ubin, for perfectly good tackles. His "performance" was crowned by an incident few minutes from full time, with Min putting in a perfectly fine sliding tackle winning the ball in middle of Ubins half, followed by the Brewerkz player taking revenge by kicking down Min. Hard words being exchanged by players and management from both sides. An obvious red card to the Brewerkz player being shown, but the ref had obviously lost the plot and showed a red card to Min as well (apparently ref claimed that Min had kicked after the Brewerkz player, something that the much better linesman had not seen nor had anyone on the sideline). To make the whole farce complete, ref giving a free kick to Brewerkz.
Ubin held on for a few more minutes to secure the win.
It is a real shame that the Cosmo committee is really discouraging protests with hefty fees, as Min's red card is so obviously wrong and should have been withdrawn.
