SCC sees out a tricky tie vs a hardworking Latini

The trip to the Singapore Sports School proved to be a successful one for the SCC squad all be it with not the greatest performance ever seen by the SCC faithful. The match started with SCC dominating possession but with no real end product due to the sloppy passing of the men in yellow the and resolute defending from Latini, battling for every challenge across the park and looking dangerous on the counter attack.

The SCC defenders managed fairly well but Latini were definitely giving it a good go to take the lead. The attacking emphasis of the SCC was to be patient with attacks and be clever in our transition between defence and attack and finally paid off with a move down the right that lead to a cross into the box to cause a mis-hit clearance bulge the back of the net for an own goal. The SCC gained more rhythm with time and finally began to stretch Latini with some balls down the channel that led to the second with Nahar beating the offside trap and coolly slotting home after rounding the keeper â?? 2 nil and flying!

As the half worn on, Scott A gained possession the right side and played some good football with Nahar whom done well to turn and cross for a good finish (header) by Scott himself. The half ended at 3 nil to the SCC but definitely was not good enough from a performance and togetherness point of view with moments of frustration creeping in at times. The talk was about executing basics better and taking more responsibility as an individual in their position.

The second half was a tighter affair from a defensive point of view for the SCC and seen a number of chances fall to the SCC midfield and front men with only Danny Townsend and Henry Turner managing to convert with very well taken goals. On another day, Hutch would have scored a hat-trick but for some unfortunate luck at times. A great finish by Mr Turner who generally worked well when coming on and showed nice touches within the attacking half to make an impact.

The workrate and performance of Nahar Daud was superb especially when he is presently fasting and still running around like a 18yr old on speedâ?¦although the lads are certain they seen him lick his lips when he poured water over his face at half time!!! The impact that Danny T brings to the team is tremendous and is a key player for the SCC with his unpredictable movement on the ball and the high levels of desire he shows throughout the match. Mehdi came in and had a good solid debut within the SCC midfield. The defence generally coped well throughout even though we conceded 2 slack goals in the last 15 minutes of the game which was certainly disappointing, from a coach point of view.

The MOM award goes to Nahar Daud for qualities mentioned earlier though Danny T was certainly in contention again but it goes to the ex international this time around. We certainly need to perform better against the Swiss in our next fixture which will be a tough match indeed.
