A spirited performance from Ubin and to be honest derserved more from this game. A real cup game with emotion, excitment, goals and of course misses!!
Nice afternoon for a 5pm kick-off on a good, rather hard and bumpy Demplsey pitch.

Cosmo League Cup, Quarter Final SCC vs. Ubin. Very important game indeed for the SCC lads, for what remains one of the main objective of the season!
nPre-match talk was to get everyone focused on the main objective of the day - qualifying to the semis of the Cosmo League Cup! We knew, as per our last encounter vs. Ubin, that they would fight for every ball all over the park and looking for counter attack.
nThe game started pretty slow for the SCC lads, and not much run and movements on and off the ball. The first half hour was about ball possession for the mens in Yellow, but without creating much chances, while Ubin lads were very performant on the counter attack with their 2 tricky and fast strikers. Fortunately for SCC, Star was as usual outstanding between the sticks and able to deny the few 1 to 1 opportunities Ubin created. The boys in Yellow did not seem to ear the few wake up calls, even though chances did come and go with a great volley from outside the box after a high clearance from Ubin defense following a corner kick. Great save by the Ubin keeper indeed. 10 minutes to go before half time and another bad clerance from Ubin defense following a corner kick, and Hutcheon was fortunate to see the ball hiting his knee to end up in the goal. Strange goal, but 1-0 up for SCC. Still not confident with Ubin showing skills up front again just before the half time break, and SCC still not able to take the game up to speed...
nHalf time talk was a clearly unhappy one with the performance of the day where, to be honest, we could have been 3-0 down. Ubin players where into the cup spirit, fighting for each and every ball, closing us down all over the park… as expected. Ubin wanted it more and SCC was not up for it!
nSecond half was about getting up for the battle, be first on every ball and playing our game to create more chances. We knew we were not done with 1-0 up and we would have to score again to secure the game.
Second half started same way for both teams, which was not a good news for SCC. Slow passing, only a few coner kicks while Ubin was again operating by counter attack, and another incredible save from Star to avoid the equilizer. A couple more injuries on SCC side with Bowden to go off for Andrerson. 70’ and the turning point of the game, another fast run from Ubin stiker and unfortunately Star took him down in the box, red card and penalty shot. Ong stepping up to take the gloves, for a miskicked converted penalty. 1-1, 15 minutes to go, 10 mens for SCC and game on for Ubin! A rather offensive tactic, 3-4-2 and SCC lads to step up in their game and started to play as they should. Quick passes, controlling the game, going wide and immediately created chances. Hutcheon and Mc Carvel were denied by Ubin keeper on several occasions. SCC was the better side on the pitch at that time and in the last minute of the game, a good move on the right side saw Tan delivering a low cross to Mc Carvel who made no mistake to take SCC to next round and the semis...
Good performance and impact from the lads who came on and the ones that did not, your support is always much apreciated, your chance will come.

MoM to Star for an amazing performance, even with the red card. You kept us in the game and the sent off + penalty shot woke us up!

Thanks to the referrees, good game as always.
nWe are looking forward for our next round against the most latin side of the league… I am sure this game will be full of excitement and SCC will need to be up for it!
nA spirited performance from Ubin, and to be honest on another day could have took the game. A real cup game, with emotion, excitement, goals and misses. Thanks to Ubin for the great game. Average performance for SCC, but great character show by the lads to go to next round.
