The German Team was up for a good performance with a strong squad at a great ITE pitch and “Fritz Walter Wetter”.
The Mannschaft started with Rene Eisenfaust in goal and the smashing Pumkins-Back-4 Steffen Dursti, Sven Fouli, Denis Massagi and Alexis Zorbas. The midfield consisted completely of former German National Players from Stuggart, Bavaria, Thueringer Wald and Teuteburger Wald with Tommy Burner, Mihael L’Erotic, Thomas Kurbjuweit and Jan Ullrich. Up front the coach trusted the 2 white feathers Michael Bomber and Volle Voeller.
The game started with the Germans pushing and wanting to get the win this afternoon. It was after an astonishing Fluegel-Flitzer-Run by Tommy Burner, that his left footed cross hypnotized the complete Lions defense for Volle to coolly nod in the 1-0 lead. While the German Cheerleaders now expected an attacking fire work, the game went into the other direction. Denis Mueller-Wohlfahrt was still apparently finishing off a patient in his private Schwarzwaldklinik and so completely missed the ball for the Lions striker to easily convert it to 1-1. Game open again and Lions even seem to get a bit better into it. At this point of time the referee decided to step in and give the Germans a present in form of a penalty. Michael converted it nicely, but it certainly was no penalty. Anyway – as during Christmas – you take presents as long as they come for free. Shortly after that it was Tommy Burner who initiated the 3-1 with a Granaten-Einwurf which after Volle’s header was neatly met by Michel L’Erotic who played an excellent game and made no mistake to slot it in.
3-1 at half time but the game far from over.
The Germans went back onto the pitch with the clear direction not to concede in the first 10 Minutes, but this was not exactly what happened, as Lions punished sloppy defending with the 3-2. Then it got even worse for the German Tanks with Jens Nowotny being sent off, while he was clearly not the last man. So it was 10 against 11 only 3-2 and the game on the brink. The German Coach made some changes bringing fresh legs and the German tanks hung on to it. Lions tried to build pressure, but The Defense around Ronny + Denis stood tall. On the counter attack it was Bomber Klemmie, who broke the Lions-Hearts with a great finish. So it was 4-2 and the game decided, even though Lions were still trying until the last minute and deserve certainly a lot of credit for that.
The Germans collected all 3 points. Man of the Match goes to Michel L’Erotic for an excellent performance in central midfield.
Cheers
Joerg
