Anglo-Saxons vs Rest of the World Match Report - ROW
World football supremacy was at stake on the magnificent Meridian Junior College battle field in Pasir Ris. Mercenaries won the first battle against the Anglo-Saxon ("AS") army but certainly not the war! First half was balanced with AS side being dangerous with Hutcheon and their offensive midfield making deep runs past our midfield. Intense battle for the control in midfield with Gurah & Owen aging but remain indestructible fortification as ever. On our side, we were mostly dangerous with Tommy & medhi and Olive Magaud with several 1/2 chances but we could not make the shoot casualty. Scott Anderson scored the opener from a powerful shot after some confusing ping pong game in our box. Legionnaires, driven by pride, managed to score the equalizer by French cannoneer Olive Magaud after a nice pass from David Alonso. 1-1 half time, fair result, good atmosphere, great perspective for the second half. Somehow it turned out to be a one way half with mehdi scoring from close after a brilliant action from our serbian-montegran-Singaporean player Essad. 3rd goal came in quickly after a one two pass between David and Francois who delivered the assist to Olive Magaud for the break. 3-1 30 min to go. 4-1 was a gem chip over the keeper by Essad after a double one-two with Francois. Tommy closed the score with a powerfull shoot under the cross bar. All the mercenaries did a really good game with some good passing, pressing and lots of defensive team work (Benji). Special mention to Magaud, Essad, David and Mehdi for being decisive and very solid and quality performance from the viking barbarians (peter, tommy & thomas). Defense was really solid and helped Rest of the World to keep Cuong Fu safe from Anglo_Saxon hotshots Hutch/Michael & Steve. Man of the game goes to Fulvio Manini who like Ave Julius Caesar inspired the team to have the right spirit and commitment needed for such a game. Thanks to all the players for helping this game to happen. looking forward to the revenge in 2010. Good refereeing from Brad as usual.
